The Somali National Army (SNA), specifically the Turkish-trained Gorgor Commandos, carried out a successful and planned operation in settlements under the jurisdiction of Warisse district in the Middle Shabelle region, targeting Al-Shabab members, according to military officers. The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the SNA to eliminate Al-Shabab fighters operating in the country. The operation specifically focused on units of Al-Shabab hiding in these settlements. The Commander of the 195th unit and 19th brigade, Captain Mohamed Omar Dufan, told SNA media that the objective was to pursue Al-Shabab elements and degrade their operational capabilities. He stated, “These groups pose a constant threat to the locals in these settlements. The operation was aimed at weakening their capabilities.” Officers have not disclosed any casualties resulting from the operation, but sources say it involved combined combat operations supported by land movements to locate Al-Shaba’s hideouts. The troops confirmed that surveillance operations will continue to ensure complete elimination of Al-Shabab units in the region. Middle Shabelle is a region where Al-Shabab is constantly present, taking advantage of rural areas to plot attacks against civilians and government troops. The operations carried out by the Gorgor Commandos are part of ongoing efforts to ensure security and protect peace in the community.
