Fighting broke out in the Mnadera region after Al-Shabab fighters launched a direct attack on Kenyan security forces who were on a patrol mission. This information was disclosed by sources in the region. Security officers have confirmed that the fighting began when Al-Shabab fighters ambushed the Kenyan security forces while they were travelling near a camp used by the security forces. The attack resulted in heavy gunfire being exchanged between the two sides. In response, reinforcements were sent to the area, particularly police forces, to support the soldiers on patrol. During the clash, the Kenyan security forces closed the nearby road as a security measure. However, the road has since been reopened on Friday and traffic and local residents have returned to normal. Following the incident, the Kenyan government has been on high alert, especially in the Mandera region and its surrounding areas. This decision was made after receiving intelligence reports that Al-Shabab has increased its attacks, targeting police stations, security personnel on patrol, and transportation vehicles.
