The Somali National Army (SNA), in close coordination with international partners, carried out an airstrike targeting members of Al-Shabab in an area close to Tawarmooge in the Mudug region. According to a press statement released by the defense ministry, the airstrike successfully dismantled a group belonging to Al-Shabab who were regrouping in this area, located 8 km from Caad and 45 km north of Harardheere district. The Somali Military stated that the airstrikes targeted a center belonging to the militant group, Al-Shabab, where they organize attacks against security forces. Initial reports indicate that at least 80 Al-Shabab fighters, including senior leaders, were successfully eliminated in the airstrike, with an additional 90-95 fighters injured. At least 8 vehicles, including those carrying logistics, were also destroyed. The defense ministry stated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to weaken Al-Shabab’s capabilities and that the Somali government will continue to target the group in order to strengthen security in the country. The operation took place as the group was carrying out movements in the southern parts of the Mudug region.
