Somaliland’s security forces yesterday conducted a security operation in the settlements that are under the administration of Salel region, killing members of armed assailants that were responsible for the murder of two innocent civilians. A press release issued by Somaliland army said that during the operation, they captured some of the assailants who were involved in the killing of two people that took place in Indho-Biraale settlement. The army reiterated that those who are arrested in connection of such actions will be brought before the justice in order to be investigated and will be tried in line with the country’s laws. The army said in the statement that they will continue such operations which are aimed to maintain the security. Somaliland Security forces seized illegal weapons including AK-47, intercepting the weapons in Indho-Biraale settlement. The statement from Somaliland’s army stated they conducted the planned operation which was aimed to maintain the security and the stability of the local residents. They sent a stern warning to those who are possessing illegal weapons or are involved in criminal activities that undermine the security. The army engaged confrontations with the assailants and killed two of them after they refused to lie down their arms. Reports say that the armed assailants have resisted and this led the two sides to engage clashes. The statement went on to say that four other armed assailants were wounded. Somaliland army called on the public to cooperate with security agencies and to refrain from any acts that would jeopardize the security.
