Somaliland President H.E Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro on Wednesday presided over the 48th Weekly Cabinet Meeting which took place at the Presidential Palace here in Hargeisa, Somaliland capital. It is noteworthy that the Deputy Somaliland President, Hon. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi was also in attendance.
The meeting addressed a number of crucial issues ranging from the country’s national security, the foreign policy and the push for Somaliland’s recognition, the current health affairs in the country, the commencement of football regional completion, the recognition celebrations held across the country which marked the historic recognition of Israel to the republic of Somaliland, the crucial meeting that Somaliland Head of State held with religious scholars in the aftermath of Israeli’s recognition of Somaliland, and the current economic situation in the country.
During the meeting, the Minister responsible for Interior and National Security, Hon. Abdalle Mohamed Arab stressed that the country’s national security is under the government control. He further said that the recent recognition celebration events held across the country were wrapped up peacefully.
The country’s finance minister, Hon. Abdilahi Hassan Adan informed the cabinet that the finance ministry made a major progress in 2025.
Once Israel officially announced the recognition of Somaliland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Int’l Cooperation Hon. Abdirahman Dahir Adan made remarks during the weekly cabinet meeting and reiterated that plans were put in place which are aimed to step up recognition seeking efforts.
He briefed them that the ministry established protocols in order to warmly welcome delegations and media practitioners from the int’l community that are pouring in Somaliland. The religious affairs minister, Hon. Abdilahi Bashe Jama confirmed to the cabinet that the Head of State held an important meeting with religious scholars. H.E President Irro made consultations with religious scholars pertaining to the Israeli’s recognition to the republic of Somaliland.
He said that President Irro reiterated that religious scholars must be part in a bid to strengthen national security. The President urged the scholars to uphold the Islamic religion and further encouraged to support Somaliland’s political interest and when it comes to engaging with the international community.
The ministers who were responsible for organizing the recognition celebrations that were held in the provinces in Somaliland. They said that the events took place in a joyful and peaceful manner across the nation. They revealed that the that was unity within the populace and sent a clear message to the Somaliland foes.
Furthermore, the deputy health minister, Hon. Zamzam Mohamed Salah who made remarks at the meeting announced the ongoing efforts to ameliorate the health services in the country. She underlined that the gov’t must implement a national health plan for people living in the border areas in the country in order the health needs of those that reside in the border areas are fulfilled. She announced that the health ministry will implement a health center in Da’ar Budhuq district where more than 300 people are expected to receive free medical services
Finally, the minister responsible for Youth and Sports, Hon. Ahmed Yasin Mohamed Farah announced that the soccer regional completion will officially kick off in the port city of Berbera where more than 1200 youth will participate the completion. He made clear that the gov’t will raise awareness for youth on the new era for Somaliland’s re-recognition.
