The Somali National Army, in collaboration with Jubaland Dervish forces, has resumed their anti-Al-Shabab operation in Jamame district, the capital of Lower Jubba region. The goal of this operation is to remove the militants from the area. The operation, which began on November 12, involved the 11th Brigade and the 43rd Division of the Somali Army, as well as Danab forces and Jubaland Dervish forces. The two sides engaged in heavy skirmishes in settlements under the administration of Jamame district. The allied troops launched their assault on December 21 and continued for forty days, with intense fighting taking place between the two sides. They departed from their bases in Yoontooy and Bar Sanguuni settlements and attempted to reopen roads that would lead them to the town. According to reports, some of the troops are using shortcut roads in order to reach the main road more quickly. Yesterday, they made new movements after international partners conducted airstrikes in Jamame town and its surrounding areas. The first priority for the troops is to eliminate the Al-Shabab fighters stationed on the east bank of the Jubba River before advancing to the town, in order to prevent the militants from besieging them. Reports also indicate that Al-Shabab fighters are scattered in the Haud area on the outskirts of the town, and it is believed that they outnumber those defending the town. This has become an obstacle for the allied troops in their efforts to remove the organized militants from the Haud area on the banks of the river.
