An aircraft operated by Star Airline, transporting a delegation of politicians and military officials, departed from Mogadishu en route to Wajid district but was turned back by Southwest State security forces based at the airport. Reports indicate that the aircraft was fired upon and narrowly escaped crashing. It is also reported that the aircraft was on its final approach for landing when the security forces opened fire, causing fear and panic among the pilot and passengers. The aircraft was reportedly carrying military officers and soldiers of the Somali Federal Government. This incident is believed to be linked to the growing tension between the Somali Federal Government and Southwest State, led by President Abdiasis Laftagaren. The pilot made a quick decision to return to the sky for safety instead of attempting to land. It is reported that the security forces responsible for the shooting were under the command of President Abdiasis Laftagaren. The aircraft sustained damage from the bullets.
