AUSSOM Commander visits Mubaarak after Al-Shabab fighters were dislodged from the area.

The Force Commander for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), General Sam Kavuma, paid an inspection visit to Mubaarak township, in order to assess the level of combat preparedness of AUSSOM troops as well as the Somali National Army (SNA), that are stationed there. The area has been recently dislodged from Al-Shabab fighters. The visit embarked by General Sam Kavuma follows after a joint operation was launched which resulted the liberation of Mubaarak and Daarsulam, as reported by military officers. He praised the coalition forces for their resilience, bravery and the efforts they made once the operation was underway. He also expressed gratitude to AUSSOM leadership, specifically Uganda people’s Defense Forces (UPDF), the Somali National Army (SNA), and the international partners for their contribution to support the security operations in Somalia. Contingent Commander, Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja, said that the morale of the coalition forces are high, and are ready to capitalize on progress so far achieved during the operations. The Commander of Battle Group 44, Colonel, Owiny Akena, who was also the Commander of the operation, confirmed that the joint coalition forces are fully in control of the two strategic townships. Lieutenant, Sayidnur Abdullah Warsame, who spoke on behalf of the Somali National Army (SNA), expressed deep gratitude to AUSSOM troops for their support and showed strong collaboration during the joint security operation. During the meeting with locals, Sam Kavuma, urged to strengthen the peace and the stability, and expedite the economic and social revival of the settlement. The local residents welcomed the coalition forces, stating that the security must be restored in the area.
