Somaliland representative to Kenya, Mohamed Ahmed Hurre alias Barwani, has said that Somaliland borders cannot be changed, and at the same time said that it is impossible for Somaliland to accept the administration dubbed SSC-Khaatumo.

Ambassador Barwani gave an interview to the BBC Somali, and argued that residents in Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions can have grievances, but reiterated that Somaliland borders which date back to 140 years cannot be altered.

He said that the world hatred cannot change Somaliland borders.

He accused the Somali Federal Gov’t of instigating hostilities and animosity in Sool and Sanaag province.

He said: “No one can change Somaliland borders which date back to 140 years. Somaliland President addressed the grievances of the residents in Eastern regions. They are our brothers. We do not like their hardships, but Hamze and Hassan Sheikh undermined Somaliland efforts.”

He went on to say that Somaliland will not accept the administration dubbed SSC-Khaatumo and that is not in line with int’l laws.

He told that the previous administrations of the Somali Federal Gov’t shied away to travel to Sool region, while the Somali Federal Gov’t headed by Hassan Sheikh allowed to directly invade Somaliland.

He said: “People can have disagreements. They can have grievances, but that does not mean that someone who is somewhere says that I recognize you, and destroys borders dating back to 140 years. That is unacceptable.”

Somaliland gov’t has strongly opposed the step taken by the Somali Federal Gov’t in which it recognized SSC-Khaatumo as Federal Member State.

Somaliland termed Somalia’s move as a violation of Somaliland’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and has withdrawn from the ongoing dialogue with Somalia.

On the other hand, the region that the Somali PM, Hamze Abdi Barre visited welcomed the recognition.

Somali PM laid the foundation stone of development projects that will be implemented in Lasanod.
