Somalia signs historic agreements with Libya

The incumbent Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a high level meetings with the Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya, Mr. Mohamed Al-Manfi, flanked by the Prime Minister of Libya, Mr. Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh. During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance the bilateral ties between the two countries. The two sides also discussed the bilateral ties between the two countries in the areas of immigration, economy, energy and diplomacy.

The Somali President focused on the appalling situation of Somali nationals who are stranded in Libyan prisons. President Hassan expressed deep thanks and appreciations to the Libyan gov’t in cooperating the repatriation of Somali nationals. The President said that he is committed to resolve the issue of immigration which is a problem to the Somali populace. The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen the ties in the areas of economic and political cooperation between the two countries. The Somali President together with Libyan PM Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh were present during the signing ceremony of a number of agreements which are aimed at strengthening the bilateral ties between the two brotherly countries. The agreement signed will focus on the areas of investment, trade and social services. The foreign, interior minister plus the mayor of Mogadishu signed the agreements with Libyan gov’t officials.
