The Somali Prime Minister, Hamze Abdi Barre has received a high level delegation from Iraq at the presidential palace.
The delegation is headed by Iraqi Interior Minister, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari.
The meeting between the Somali Prime Minister and the Iraqi Interior Minister shows the consolidating ties between Iraq and Somalia.
The focus of the meeting was to consolidate the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides reached a common understanding to work together on key areas for the two countries.
Issues the two sides discussed include security, the fight against Al-Shabab, ISIS, and exchanging expertise and trainings of armed forces.
The Somali Prime Minister, Hamze Abdi Barre warmly received the Iraqi interior minister and his delegation.
He lauded Iraqi delegation for embarking on an official visit to Somalia.
He said that the visit is an indication of the the efforts to consolidate the historic ties and the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
A statement from the Office of the Somali Prime Minister said that the meeting was an opportunity to broaden the working cooperation between Iraq and Somalia.
It is pointed out that the meeting is part of the Somali gov’t to consolidate int’l ties in the area of security and the development of basic services.
On his side, Iraqi Interior Minister, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari has confirmed that his gov’t is committed to stand by Somalia.
He pledged to enhance the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the areas of security, immigration, education and trainings of armed forces.
The visit is seen as ways to strengthen the strategic bilateral ties between the two countries.
This is a clear sign that the two countries are committed to have lasting peace and progress in the region.
