Parliament Passes Political Parties Act

The House of Representatives of Somaliland has unanimously passed the amendments to the political parties and associations Act which has been under debate by the lawmakers for the past couple of days.

Forty MP’s have approved the Act while three other MP’s have rejected the move.

The Act will allow the public to go direct elections and to have political associations every ten years while the top 3 will qualify as the next three political national parties.

House Speaker has clarified that the licenses of the three political parties Kulmiye, Wadani and UCID will expire in 2022.

SL will finally launch the registration of new political associations.

Some of the opposition lawmakers who were against the changes to the association Act have abstained the session.
