The Somali Federal Gov’t on Tuesday lauded the Somali National Army (SNA) forces for thwarting al Alshabab attack on a military base in Hiran region in Central Somalia. Alshabab terrorists attempted to attack Beera-yabaal and Aboorey districts in Hiran region, but were repulsed by gallant SNA forces backed by local clan militia fighters. The two districts attacked by Alshabab militant fighters are under the administration of Buulo Burte. The Somali Gov’t said that its troops successfully repelled Alshabab’s attempts to takeover the districts. Reports from the districts confirm that there were a heavy fighting between the gov’t troops and Al shabab fighters. The two sides used all forms of heavy weapons during the clashes as far as the skirmishes are concerned. The gov’t said that its troops seized weapons and combat vehicles while killing number of Alshabab fighters during the clashes. SNA Commanders who are leading the anti-terrorism operations in Southern Somalia said that its troops inflicted heavy casualties on Alshabab fighters.
