The Chairman of Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, has announced on Wednesday in a press conference held in Mogadishu, that the deadline for the registration of political organizations has been extended.
The deadline for the registration of political organizations in Somalia was scheduled to expire on 31st March, 2025.
He said that the deadline has been extended after some of the political organizations have submitted a request to the Electoral Commission.
He revealed that the Electoral Commission extended the deadline by adding 21 more days when it comes to date fixed for the expiration of the registration of political organizations.
He said: ” For the past few days we held discussions with political organizations that have already registered and those that are in the pipeline. They have appealed that the election commission must extend the deadline. The Electoral Commission held a meeting on the issue and we have decided to add 21 more days to the deadline for the registration of new political organizations. The previous deadline was on 31st March, 2025.”
The Chairperson went on to say that the local council elections will be held in nationwide in June, 2025.
He said: “The local council elections will be scheduled to be held in Somalia in June, 2025. Preparations are smoothly underway to hold the elections on time.”
