Former lecturer at Somali National University, a poet by the name of Nageeye Ali Khalif, who recently joined Alshabab terrorist group was confirmed that he was killed by gov’t troops during clashes that erupted in Alkawthar district in Middle Shabelle region. This was disclosed by the Spokesman of Hirshabelle president, Mr. Daud Haji Irrio. The spokesman said that other Alshabab fighters were killed during the clashes between Somali National Army and Al Shabab fighters. The Presidential spokesman further stated that Nageyee was among Alshabab fighters that launched an attack against gov’t troops backed by local clan fighters that are stationed in Alkawthar district. The 30 year-old poet who hails from Somaliland recently left from Mogadishu and handed himself over to Al shabab fighters that are stationed in Jilib district. The two sides used all kinds of heavy weapons during the clashes between gov’t troops and Alshabab fighters. Details are sketchy but the corpses of Alshabab fighters were circulated on social media. The situation in Alkawthar district remains tense as gov’t troops supported by local clan fighters committed to get rid of the terrorist organizations from Somalia.
