The ministry of information of Somalia issued a press statement on Thursday and gave details of an airstrike that targeted Al-shabab members in Adan Yabal district in Middle Shabelle province.
The Somali National Army (SNA) and in conjunction with U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted the airstrike last night which was aimed to eliminate Al-Shabab militants that seized adan Yabal district yesterday.
The statement went on to say that the airstrike targeted an area where the militants were regrouping.
The ministry of information confirmed that 12 Al-shabab militants including senior leaders and fighters were killed in the airstrike.
The press statement also confirmed that there were no civilian casualties as far as the airstrike is concerned.
The press statement further added that the Somali National Army (SNA) and AFRICOM still continue to assess the casualties that were inflicted on the enemy.
The airstrike came after heavy fighting took place in Adan Yabal district between Al-Shabab militants and the Somali National Army (SNA).
Al-Shabab seized the district Adan Yabal after it engaged fierce fighting with Somali National Army (SNA).
